More Americans Are Getting Brazilian Butt Lifts

woman's buttWomen like Beyonc?, Kim Kardashian, and Jennifer Lopez have no doubt played a role in the average American woman?s desire to have the ?perfect? voluptuous butt. In fact, the number of Americans who have chosen to enhance the size and shape of their butt with cosmetic surgery has increased significantly over the last few years.

In the past, butt implants were the only option for buttock augmentation, but now men and women alike can enlarge and perfect their rear ends with a less invasive option: the Brazilian Butt Lift.

What Is the Brazilian Butt Lift?

The Brazilian Butt Lift works by removing fat from an area of the body where fat is plenteous, such as the thighs or abdomen, with liposuction. This unwanted fat is then purified and injected back into the patient?s buttocks to contour and smooth the shape and enhance the size. The degree of augmentation depends on the patient?s desires as well as the amount of fat the patient has in the donor area(s). Unlike butt augmentation with implants, the Brazilian Butt Lift uses much smaller incisions, which are made during the liposuction phase of the procedure. This results in a quicker recovery and shorter scars that typically fade with time.

Why Is the Brazilian Butt Lift So Popular?

Last year?s statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons reveal that the Brazilian Butt Lift has shown a 16 percent increase from the previous year, with close to 10,000 procedures performed in 2013. Because of the increasing demand for the procedure, more doctors have received training to perform it, which has made this procedure even more accessible to the average American.

Restore a Youthful Appearance with BOTOX? Cosmetic and Fillers

Is your face making you appear tired or angry, even though you don?t feel that way? The natural aging process, combined with other factors like gravity, sun exposure, and the daily stresses of life, can have a dramatic effect on the overall appearance of the face. To restore a youthful facial appearance, individuals all over Washington D.C. seek effective treatments like BOTOX? Cosmetic and injectable fillers.

BOTOX? CosmeticFemale receiving Botox? injection

BOTOX? Cosmetic is an FDA-approved substance produced from a toxin that is derived from bacterium Clostridium. This injectable diminishes fine lines and wrinkles by temporarily relaxing the muscles of the face.

BOTOX? Cosmetic can effectively improve the following:

  • Forehead wrinkles

  • Crow?s feet

  • Frown lines

BOTOX? Cosmetic injections are performed on an outpatient basis and require no anesthesia. After the targeted areas are cleaned, BOTOX? Cosmetic is administered directly into the muscles of the face through a fine needle. The results will not be immediately apparent but will become noticeable over the next few days. Although every patient is different, BOTOX? Cosmetic injections usually last between three and six months.

Injectable Fillers

Injectable fillers restore fullness to areas of the face that experienced loss of volume. There is a variety of fillers that are available in cosmetic treatment, but a fat transfer is often highly desired because it eliminates the risk of an allergic reaction.

A fat transfer can improve the facial appearance by:

  • Restoring fullness to the eye area

  • Adding volume to the cheeks

  • Filling in folds around the mouth

  • Plumping the lips

  • Filling in deeper lines, wrinkles, and creases

Fat transfer is performed on an outpatient basis. Once the targeted areas are cleaned, fat that was previously harvested from another area of the patient?s body is injected into the face. Patients are usually able to enjoy a refreshed and more youthful appearance immediately after the procedure, and the results can last anywhere from a few months to a few years.

Plastic Surgery Misconceptions

With the rise in popularity of plastic surgery over the last few decades and the media attention on celebrity plastic surgeries gone wrong, many people have a misguided idea of this medical specialty. Here is the truth to several common misconceptions about plastic surgery.

Misconception: Plastic Surgery Results Look Fake

The term ?plastic surgery? covers a wide range of procedures and treatments, and when they are performed by a trained and experienced plastic surgeon, the results can appear completely natural. Although some celebrity breast augmentations and facial implants may look fake, this is often because the person desired that appearance or they underwent the surgery with a doctor who was not qualified. Making sure that your surgeon is trained and experienced in performing the procedure you desire will ensure that you get the most natural-looking results possible.

Misconception: Plastic Surgery Is All About Vanity

Plastic surgery encompasses the fields of cosmetic surgery as well as reconstructive surgery. Cosmetic plastic surgery is probably what comes to mind when someone mentions plastic surgery, and this field focuses on creating an appearance that is aesthetically pleasing. Rather than undergoing procedures to be vain, most people have cosmetic surgery to significantly improve their confidence and relieve anxiety they have about their appearance.

Collage of words about plastic surgeryReconstructive plastic surgery provides a normal appearance and regular functioning of the body as a result of an injury or birth defect. A deformity can impair a person physically, and it can take a mental toll by causing a person to feel as though he or she is an outsider and not socially accepted. For example, reconstructive surgery for congenital abnormalities prevents children from the torment of being teased for an aspect of their appearance that is out of their control. Reconstructive hand surgery, burn scar revision, breast reconstruction after mastectomy, and cleft lip repair are just a few examples of reconstructive plastic surgery procedures.

Misconception: Plastic Surgery Is Only for Women

This presumption is most likely based on the fact that the majority of plastic surgery patients are women, but in recent years the number of men choosing to undergo plastic surgery has increased dramatically. Liposuction for a slimmer waist, rhinoplasty for improved nose shape, blepharoplasty for eyelid tightening, and gynecomastia surgery to reduce overdeveloped male breasts are the top four cosmetic surgeries that men underwent in 2012, according to The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS). Less invasive procedures, such as BOTOX? Cosmetic and skin resurfacing for facial rejuvenation, are among the most common plastic surgery treatments undergone by men.

Dr. Scroggins has been performing plastic surgery procedures for almost 20 years and specializes in cosmetic breast surgery and body contouring. Get a Leg Up This Year!

Although the ideal length and size of legs is a subject of debate, it is generally agreed upon that loose, sagging skin on the legs is not an element of attraction. Over time and often as a result of weight loss, the skin on the thighs loses elasticity and can become loose and wrinkled. Diet and exercise can help eliminate fat from the thigh and hip area, but the skin loses resilience with age and does not conform to the shape of the thighs like it once did. For those who have excess skin in the thigh and buttocks area, Dr. Scroggins offers thigh lift surgery.Beautiful female legs crossed in the air on a grey background

The thigh lift procedure is performed with the patient under general anesthesia, and it smoothes the skin on the inner and outer thighs by removing excess skin. The remaining skin is pulled tight to reveal firmer, sleeker thighs that are in better proportion to the rest of the body. Incision locations for this surgery depend on the area being corrected, but any resulting scars will be hidden inconspicuously and fade over time.

Liposuction can also be combined with thigh lift surgery in order to eliminate excess fat from the thigh and hip area and achieve a more slender figure in the lower body. The removal of fat through liposuction also allows for additional skin to be removed, resulting in more svelte thighs. Once the fat is removed, the skin is redraped over the slim, newly contoured thighs, and excess skin is removed.

Potential candidates for thigh lift surgery include:

  • Individuals with loose skin and excess fat along their inner or outer thighs
  • People in good overall health
  • Non-smokers
  • Individuals who have tried diet and exercise but seen little to no improvement in the thigh area
  • People who are at a stable weight
  • Individuals with realistic goals for the surgery

If you are considering thigh lift surgery, please contact Plastic Surgery of Greater Washington. Dr. Carlton Scroggins specializes in body contouring and has almost 20 years of experience to provide you with the smooth, refined thighs you desire. The Best Time To Undergo A Facelift

Female model touching her face with both handsYears ago, a facelift was strictly viewed as a specialty procedure that required weeks of recovery, which only the wealthy could afford. However, modern advancements in medical technology and techniques have made it possible for just about anyone to get a facelift with minimal downtime. Often, facelifts are combined with other facial procedures, such as eyelid lifts and brow lifts, in order to achieve even more facial rejuvenation. Given all that plastic surgery has to offer, when is the optimal time to undergo a facelift?

Each year, over 125,000 facelifts are carried out in the United States, with the largest number being performed on patients 50 to 65 years of age. Although most people do not have a facelift done until their 40?s or 50?s, it is not uncommon for individuals in their 30?s to undergo this procedure. In other words, since every person ages differently, there is no specific age that a facelift must be performed.

A facelift typically takes years off a person?s appearance by eliminating various signs of aging on the face, including:

  • Sagging skin in the midface and neck

  • Wrinkles below the eyes

  • Creases around the nose and mouth

  • Displaced fat deposits in the cheeks

Individuals who decide to undergo a facelift should be in good overall health and have realistic expectations about the procedure. To ensure long lasting results, it is best that sun protection be worn to minimize skin damage.

Tips For Choosing The Correct Bra Size

elegant blue bra on red hangerThe correct fitting bra provides women with the best comfort and appearance. However, about 80 percent of women wear the incorrect bra size. Wearing the wrong size can cause many physical?problems, such as neck, back, and shoulder pain, not to mention leave behind a less attractive appearance that can affect a woman?s self-confidence.

Generally, all bras are the same in that they contain a number followed by an alphabetical letter, so how do you distinguish the right bra from the wrong one? In order to find a bra size that best fits you, it is important that you either see a professional fitter or complete the following three steps:

Step 1: Measure Your Band Size

While exhaling with your bra on, wrap a measuring tape around the bottom of your bust and take the smallest measurement possible. After rounding to the nearest whole number, add two inches if the number is even and three inches if the number is odd.

Step 2: Measure Your Cup Size

While wearing a non-padded bra, stand straight and measure the fullest part of your bust. Round your number to the nearest whole number.

Step 3: Calculate Your Bra Size

To find your bra size, subtract your band number from your cup number. For each difference of an inch, increase your overall cup number by one size.

Step 1: ?34? bust measurement (under) = 36? band

Step 2: ?39? bust measurement (over)

Step 3: ?39?- 36? = 3? (C cup)

Your Bra Size is probably 36C

If the calculation of your cup size is more than four inches larger than your band size, or if you have droopy or pendulous breasts, this measurement may not be accurate.

If the Difference between Step 1 and Step 2 is…

? ?Your Cup Size is…

? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? 0? to ??

Choosing the right size bra is an important aspect for not only looking great, but feeling confident about yourself.
